The state must impose greater taxes on New York’s wealthy residents as officials wait for additional federal coronavirus relief, progressive lawmakers said Tuesday, to help close the state’s anticipated two-year $25 billion-plus budget shortfall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For months, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and top state officials have pleaded for federal COVID-19 relief for U.S. states and localities as New York faces a $14.5 billion deficit in state revenue this year and a nearly $30 billion budget hole over the next two years.

Recent events show that they need to build variability into the spending side of the budget rather than firm commitments. States can't print money during bad times the way the federal government can. More optional bonuses and such that can be cut off when necessary. Even build the variability in so it kicks off automatically.

Hmmm, I guess not enough wealthy people have left NY yet. Nothing but wealth envy.

Go for it! Kill the goose! While you're at it, close down indoor dining in NYC until "there's a vaccine", whatever that means. Does there have to just be a vaccine or do a certain number of people have to get it? Impose some more restrictions on travellers too! Keep driving people out of the state and preventing people from coming here. You are sealing your own coffin from the inside, Democrats. The only problem is, Im in here with you.

I suppose you'd rather they tax the middle and lower classes? Why don't you leave? I'm always asked that question about leaving the country. What are your reasons for not leaving the state. That's far easier than leaving the country.
